This year has been a great year in continuing to advance gay rights/activism. More than ever, gay couples are becoming a prevalent and accepted part of society, with the push for gay marriage equality at an all time high. Regardless, homophobia still exists and is nowhere near from extinct in our world. This year, there are two people that stick out in my mind as ones that deserve the title of gay couple of the year- Cole Ledford and Jerad Williams. Why do I think they deserve the title?

Cole was the victim of a vicious homophobic attack on November 6th. A message he posted on his twitter moments after he was punched in the face for simply kissing his boyfriend went viral, and Cole has become an overnight sensation. Cole’s boyfriend, Jerad, has stuck by him and they both have become outspoken advocates in the gay community.

Love Is Louder is an organization that was started by Courtney Knowles and Brittany Snow. Cole has used the widespread attention he got from being attacked and joined on the Love Is Louder team. He is now working with them to drive their messaging towards the LGBT community. Jerad has also been an outspoken member of the team.

Not only are Cole and Jerad good looking, but they are brave, courageous, and cutting edge. They are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in, even in the face of severe adversity. They are living proof that as a community, we are not weak. We will not allow someone to attack us for what we are and sit idly by/quietly in the corner. We have a voice and it deserves to be heard. There is no couple leading our voice right now more than Cole and Jerad.

For these reasons, we are naming them the gay couple of 2014. We look forward to continuing to see more from these two in the future and hopefully continuing to work with them on some projects.

They broke up. Also Cole is one of the rudest and most conceded people you could ever meet. No one deserves to get punched in the face for kissing their boyfriend, but Cole is not a good person and shouldn’t be celebrated as a hero
