As you recently read, we picked Cole Ledford and Jerad Williams as the gay couple of 2014. Now, the Huffington Post Live is running a contest for Unicorn Of The Year. What is Unicorn Of The Year and why do we think Cole Ledford (pictured, in the back) deserves it?

Unicorn Of The Year is a title given to someone who has done something great for the LGBT community this year.

What has Cole done? Let’s break it down:

– First, after getting violently attacked for kissing his boyfriend, he posted a message on his twitter that read:

– This immediately got Cole national attention. He used it to tell his story and, rather than look for sympathy, mold it into something positive. In the first interview I did with him, he was so inspiring, detailing how he would offer his attacker forgiveness if he could see him again face to face.

– Then, Cole began working with the Love Is Louder movement to be a spokesperson for the LGBT community.

– Cole has continued to grow and gain attention in a positive manner for gay rights.

We applaud Cole for his dedication to the LGBT community and their rights, his courageousness in the face of adversity, and his refusal to be silenced by a bigot and, rather, use that to find a voice.

For all of these reasons, Cole definitely deserves to be the Huffington Post Live’s Unicorn of the Year and has our support.
